Hello friends and welcome!  My name is Elizabeth and I am a professional counselor who is here to help you reach a goal or make a change in your life.  My counseling framework is based on the tenets of emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. I believe that when we change our thoughts we can change our lives. So often changing our thoughts can seem like an insurmountable task. I believe you can achieve your personal goals through counseling, and enjoy a new outlook on life. For more information about my services and what I can do for you, please browse through my website and do not hesitate reaching out with any questions.

I have worked in the field of counseling for over 10 years as a school counselor, college counselor, and private practice clinician.  I work with clients using a person-centered approach, combined with CBT, DBT, & EMDR strategies to help them recognize their strengths and abilities to overcome anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and improve relationships.

I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults as they navigate critical life transitions. My doctoral dissertation focused on the role of the school in cultivating a climate conducive to successful social-emotional, personal, and academic transitions for middle school students.  I also advocate for the role of counselors as mental health professionals in public education and speak on related subjects.

Education

In 2005, I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with degrees in English and Communications.  I returned to school in 2011 and earned my Master's in Professional School Counseling from Appalachian State University in 2012.  After 5 years, I decided to pursue my Doctorate degree in Education Leadership.  I graduated from Appalachian State University with my Ed.D. in May 2020. I am pleased to say that I was the first virtual dissertation defense at Appalachian State University!

I believe that continued education is a key element of personal and profession growth.  In addition to my degrees, I also hold a graduate certificate in Educational Technology & Online Learning from N.C. State University and have completed coursework in Educational Administration from UNC-Charlotte.  I completed the Cosmetology program at Pitt Community College in 2007.

In 2021 I completed an EMDRIA approved 40-hour EMDR basic training and am now fully certified as an EMDR therapist. I also completed at 40-hour Supervision course through UNCG to earn the Qualified Clinical Supervisor credential.

Additional NBCC approved professional development courses include: Vicarious Trauma & Resilience, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Introduction to Employee Assistance Programs, Alcohol Addiction, Overview of Eating Disorders, Treatment Modalities for Eating & Feeding Disorders.  For more information about training, certifications, publications and speaking engagements click the link below to view my CV.
